On 30 September 2021, a professional cycling team (Team) hired an independent Colombian cyclist (Cyclist) for the 2022 and 2023 seasons. In July 2022, the Cyclist was officially summoned by the Spanish authorities in connection with criminal proceedings against a doctor (Doctor) accused of prescribing illegal substances and doping products (such as menotropin) to athletes, including cyclists who had participated in the Giro.

When the Team became aware that the Cyclist was potentially involved in the doping scandal, it immediately suspended him from sporting activities and reduced his compensation.
