On 16 May 2018, an Austrian coach (Rene Poms) signed an employment agreement with a football club (GNK Dinamo Zagreb) affiliated with the Croatian Football Federation (CFF). On 1 June 2019, the parties signed a new agreement that, less than a year later, the club terminated.
On 29 May 2020, the coach filed a claim against the club before the FIFA Dispute Resolution Chamber (FIFA DRC), seeking damages due to the termination of the agreement, allegedly without just cause. The club challenged the jurisdiction of the FIFA DRC since the agreement provides for a dispute resolution clause in favor of the CFF Court of Arbitration and rejected the coach’s claim on the merits.
On 9 February 2021, FIFA DRC issued a decision partially upholding the coach’s claim. It ordered the club to pay EUR 188,880 for damages (plus interests) for termination of the employment agreement without just cause. Regarding jurisdiction, the FIFA DRC...
