On 23 July 2024, the European Leagues and FIFPRO Europe announced that they were jointly filing a complaint with the European Commission against FIFA over the international match calendar. They believe that the current calendar places too much strain on national leagues and jeopardizes players’ well-being.
The European Leagues and FIFPRO Europe will collaborate to formally lodge a complaint with the European Commission[1] against FIFA concerning the international match calendar. Despite ongoing appeals to FIFA to institute a transparent and equitable process for the calendar, FIFPRO and the European Leagues’ input has consistently been disregarded by FIFA, according to both stakeholders. The main complaint regards the fact that, allegedly, the current international match calendar is placing an unsustainable burden on national leagues and posing a significant risk to players’ health.
