The case is related to a sell-on fee dispute between the Argentinian club, Club Atlético Newell’s Old Boys (Newell’s), and the Italian side, AS Roma (Roma), for the player Ezequiel Ponce.
In July 2015, Newell’s transferred Ponce to Roma for a fee of EUR 4.2 million maintaining a sell-on fee of 40% of any proceed in a future transfer. Roma also had the option to reduce the sell-on to 20%, paying EUR 2.2 million before 30 December 2018. Roma did not exercise such an option.
The contract also provided penalties and punitive interests in case Roma failed to pay the aforementioned sell-on fee once triggered.
Ponce was loaned to several clubs across Europe with a modest performance until the season 2018-2019, when he was loaned to AEK Athens and scored 21 goals in 41 appearances,...
