CAS Dismisses Luis Rubiales Appeal


Just a day shy of former Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) Luis Rubiales's criminal conviction by a Spanish judge, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) ruled that the sanction imposed by FIFA on the former Spanish football official was not disproportionate. Thus, Mr. Rubiales's appeal was dismissed.

This long legal saga started when Mr. Rubiales, then President of the RFEF, kissed Jennifer Hermoso, the striker of the Spanish national team and second-ranked at the 2021 Ballon d’Or Féminin, during the celebration of Spain's victory over England.
