On 20 February 2025, the Criminal Judge of the Spanish National Court, José Manuel Fernández-Prieto, rendered a verdict against the former President of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Luis Rubiales, pertaining to the case involving Jennifer Hermoso (see enclosed).

Facts

During the celebration of Spain’s victory over England, Mr. Rubiales, then RFEF President, kissed Jenni Hermoso, the striker of the Spanish national team and second-ranked at the 2021 Ballon d’Or Féminin.

More precisely, at the champions’ medals ceremony, the former head of Spanish football was so euphoric with the players that he kissed Mrs. Hermoso on the mouth. Spanish and international sports and political stakeholders met this gesture with widespread condemnation and concern.
