Shockwaves Hit Belgian Football
On 10 October 2018, in the wake of an investigation opened a few months earlier, the biggest scandal ever to hit Belgian football was revealed: 44 searches were conducted simultaneously by 184 police officers across the country, culminating in around 10 arrests (football agents, club directors, shareholders, a referee, employees of the Belgian Football Federation, etc.). The investigation was triggered by suspicious financial transactions relating to transfers of football players through a bank in Genk (Limbourg) and suspected match-fixing.
