Introduction

Throughout this second semester of year 2014, a lot has been said about the sanction imposed on Luis Suárez by the FIFA as a result of the bite to the Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini, during the match in which Uruguay defeated Italy 1:0 at the 2014 World Cup Brazil.

Today, a few months after the event, we will try to provide an objective and legal view of the case, in order to be able to come to conclusions free from any subjectivism and passion.

The bite: a reprehensible but inexplicable action

The aggression by Luis Suárez against Giorgio Chiellini through a bite was clearly a completely reprehensible action, for which Luis Suárez deserves a disciplinary sanction by the FIFA; denying so would be burying our heads in the sand.
