The integrity of a sport can be tempered with or undermined, directly or indirectly, in three different ways:[1]

  • The lack of financial regulation and transparency as to the source of the money funding professional sports (especially football) has indirect consequences on their integrity. Indeed, equity cannot be adequately served when there are great financial inequalities - in terms of means, resources and wherewithal - between clubs partaking in the same competitions. Such inequalities will potentially falsify the fairness of competitions.
