Introduction
The legal separation was based on an FFA New Leagues Working Group (NLWG) report which was finalised in April 2019 and recommended an alternative model for how the professional football leagues in Australia should operate. It should be noted that the NLWG is comprised of representatives from each Member State Federation, the A-League clubs, Professional Footballers Australia (PFA), the Women’s Football Council and the FFA Board.
The key-principles related to the legal separation of the A-League in the NLWG report included:
- The new entity will be responsible for the professional football leagues, including the A-League;
- The new entity will be autonomous and separate from the FFA; and,
- The new entity will offer the clubs greater responsibility and encouragement to invest in order to commercialise and grow...
