FIFA's ban on TPO: a very hotly debated issue

FIFA circular no. 1464, 22 December 2014 

Marrakesh (Morocco) - On 19 December 2014, FIFA president Sepp Blatter announced the ban on TPO from 1 May 2015.

On the occasion of its meeting on 25 and 26 September 2014, the FIFA Executive Committee passed a decision of general principle on the regulatory approach of a ban on third party ownership (TPO) with a transitional period.

At its meeting held on 18 and 19 December 2014, the FIFA Executive Committee approved new provisions to be included in the Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players concerning TPO as well as third-party influence on clubs.
