European Leagues Welcome European Commission's Recommendation on Combatting Online Piracy


On 5 May 2023, the European Leagues, which group 40 professional football leagues from the European continent, praised a set of recommendations issued by the European Commission, the main executive branch of the European Union, to better combat online privacy. Notwithstanding this, the aforementioned recommendations were well-welcome, and the Leagues urged the European Commission to go "much further."

Recommendations allow the European Commission and other European institutions to make their views known and suggest a line of action without imposing any legal obligation on those it addresses. According to the European Commission, recommendations are made “in subjects as wide-ranging as the rights of suspects in criminal cases, policy guidance on individual EU countries’ public finances and promoting zero-energy buildings.”
