Football Legal: FIFA has recently introduced amendments to the FIFA Disciplinary Code and the FIFA Code of Ethics. What were the objectives and what are the main amendments?

Emilio Garcia: The recent amendments to the FIFA Disciplinary Code and the FIFA Code of Ethics are in line with our continuous commitment to modernise the football regulatory framework.

The main objective was to reinforce the protection of the members of the football community (especially victims of discrimination and sexual abuse or harassment) and to further safeguard financial justice between creditors and debtors.

In this context, the amendments provide FIFA with additional instruments to protect the integrity of football and fight against illegal, immoral or unethical methods and practices. The amendments followed extensive discussions with different stakeholders - namely ECA and FIFPRO -, football confederations and prominent legal...
