Uruguayan Players’ Union Calls a Strike


On 7 September 2023, the Uruguayan Players’ Association (Mutual Uruguaya de Futbolistas Profesionales – MUFP) called a strike, as its members decided to “unanimously” not to participate in matches in Uruguay’s top two men’s divisions for the weekend of 9 and 10 September 2023. FIFPRO released, on 8 September, a statement supporting all initiatives carried by MUFP.

MUFP unanimously decided not to play on the weekend of 9 and 10 September 2023, as they aim to update and approve the current collective bargaining (CBA) agreement in place for professional football in the South American country.
