The Single Judge of the Players’ Status Committee ruled that Payments in another Currency cannot influence the Basic amount that was stipulated by the contract

According to the Termination Agreement that was entered into between the coach Slaven Bilic (picture) and FC Lokomotiv Moscow, the Club undertook to pay the Coach certain amount of compensation for the unilateral termination of the employment contract in several installments. The amount was defined in Euros, however it had to be paid in Russian rubles at an official exchange rate set by the Central bank of Russia. During the payment period the exchange rate changed dramatically. This led to the dispute, as the amount in Euros, effectively received by the Coach, was significantly less than the one stipulated by the Termination Agreement.

The background facts

On 15 May 2012, the Coach and the Club entered into an employment contract valid until 30 June 2015.

On 17 June 2013, the parties concluded the Termination Agreement, under the terms of which they mutually agreed upon the termination of the employment contract.

Pursuant to the Termination Agreement, the Club was obliged to pay the Coach a compensation in four installments payable by 30 June 2013, 30 November 2013, 31 January 2014 and 28 February 2014, respectively.
