The topic of registration bans and their impact on how clubs conduct business worldwide has always deeply impacted modern football law. To better support football stakeholders across all member confederations, on 11 January 2024, FIFA launched a digital tool to give football family members an overview of current registration bans imposed on clubs that breached FIFA's Regulations.
The digital tool displays a search engine, available in English, French and Spanish, in which stakeholders, including players and clubs, as well as the general public, can browse and look for clubs under a registration ban by searching their international name, local name or member association. As of 11 January 2024, 964 clubs are included in the digital tool due to bans imposed by the FIFA Disciplinary Committee or Football Tribunal.
Additionally, users can view clubs by whether the ban affects female or male athletes, the ban start date and the number of registration periods the club would be deterred from registering new footballers. As many industry members have pointed out, this tool may play a significant role in due diligence while prospecting future transfers and potential employers.
