Kissing Scandal: Update on the Rubiales Case


On 24 August 2023, the world governing football body, through its Disciplinary Committee, opened proceedings against the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) President, Mr. Luis Rubiales. Finally, a few days later, on 26 August 2023, the FIFA Disciplinary Committee suspended Mr. Rubiales provisionally for 90 days.

The celebration of Spain’s victory over England after the Southern European country’s national women’s representative team won its first FIFA Women’s World Cup had its dark side. One of the images left by celebrating the victory was the kiss Mr. Rubiales, the RFEF President, gave Jenni Hermoso, striker of the Spanish national team and second-ranked at the 2021 Ballon d’Or Féminin.
