On 27 May 2021, a question was referred to the Court of Justice of the European Union for a preliminary ruling in the Super League case, asking to what extent Articles 101 and 102 TFEU, and more incidentally Articles 45, 49, 56 or 63 TFEU, apply to the statutes of FIFA and UEFA.[1] In other words, FIFA and UEFA must respect the internal market law formed by competition rules[2] and freedom of movement.
