Apart from touching on several tax aspects and concepts, this article is addressed to sports lawyers, players and club representatives, who are not familiar with such topics. The author intends to call attention to the repercussions that taxation regulations can have vis-à-vis contracts that are drafted in daily practice.

Today, taxation has become an urgent topic in the football world.

However, the concern about taxes started with the internationalization of players’ transfers during the 1980s.

For the first time in history, we had well paid players, who were playing abroad with minimal knowledge of the relevant local tax law and taxation regulations.
