In October 2021, Football Australia announced the establishment of a specific independent complaint procedure in partnership with Sport Integrity Australia with additional hearing and appeal avenues given to the National Sports Tribunal. This procedure will allow Sport Integrity Australia to receive and handle complaints and reports on a range of allegations concerning Australian football.
Background
This procedural initiative by Football Australia was in response to the former Australian women national team (Australia’s second-highest goalscorer in senior internationals) player, Lisa De Vanna (De Vanna), alleging that she suffered sexual harassment as a player when she was subjected to sexual harassment, indecent assault, grooming and bullying from Australian senior players throughout her 20-year career international career. “De Vanna said she had seen cultural problems at all levels during her 20-year career and that there needed to be ‘consequences’ and ‘accountability’ for this behaviour.”[1] These allegations rocked the Football establishment in...
