FIFPRO and its Member Unions to Create Centralized Footballers Data Management Platform


On 10 July 2023, FIFPRO, the world professional organization for footballers, announced its commitment to creating a centralized platform to support football players to better protect, manage and control their personal data.

First Steps

In the past few years, Football Legal has been closely monitoring the impact of new data protection standards on footballers’ rights (both personal and human). For instance, it should be noted that, on 21 November 2019, FIFPRO and FIFA announced that they would work together to identify and develop standards for the collection, protection, and use of personal player-performance data based on the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Swiss Law. Both stakeholders also announced their willingness to share best practices on the aforementioned issues.
