Equal Pay of Chinese Women’s Football: Where to Go?

This article introduces and sorts out the legislative framework and judicial practice of equal pay for equal work in China, pointing out that Chinese women football players can defend their right to equal pay for equal work by actively forming players’ unions and conducting collective bargaining in accordance with the law.

Introduction

On 6 February 2022, during Chinese New Year (the year of the tiger), the Chinese Women’s National Team won over the Korean Women’s National Team after a dramatic reversal in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup which, according to lots of Chinese netizens, washed away the shame of Chinese football brought by the Men’s National Team in the match against Vietnam Men’s National Team.

This is the 9th time the Chinese Women’s National Team has won the AFC Championship. The Chinese Football Association (CFA) issued a public congratulation letter on its official website, praising the “Women’s National Team brought honor to their people and country, perfectly demonstrated their unbroken spirit.”
