ECA Reacts to FIFA 2023 Women's World Cup Calendar 


On 26 April 2023, the European Club Association (ECA) showed concern regarding the increased number of alerts regarding International Match Calendar (IMC) matters. According to ECA, its member clubs are reporting that FIFA member associations are, in the context of the upcoming 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup, calling up players for international duty outside of the mandatory release periods established in the FIFA IMC.

ECA members have shared their mutual opinion regarding how female players should be released, and they have unanimously stated that they will “seek to strictly adhere to the mandatory release period and request that the rules governing the release of players to their national teams to be respected ahead of the tournament.” Accordingly, ECA member clubs do not intend to release female footballers outside...
