The long-awaited national football league second division in Australia has moved a step closer with a whitepaper set to be put to the board of Football Federation Australia (FFA) in the coming months.

Background

An initial draft white paper (which has not been released to the public), which was completed recently, had detailed twenty-four recommendations for the introduction of the second division in 2021, likely to be known as ‘The Championship’, which would sit below the A-League.

The initial draft whitepaper was commissioned by the National Second Division Working Group (NSDWG), which was set up by the FFA and this Group recently provided new details about the prospective launch a professional second division in the Australian football landscape.[1]
